The overall mission of EFRD is to 1) Promote responsible drinking in the EU and; 2) Encourage the industry to adopt responsible self-regulatory standards for commercial communications.
To reach the objectives, EFRD is committed to:

   Drive positive change in attitudes and drinking behaviour by promoting responsible drinking and discouraging risky drinking.
   EFRD helps identify best practice across Europe and offer support to SAOs (industry funded organization at national level to tackle alcohol-related harm) and European Spirits Organisation - CEPS members across Europe to achieve this objective.
   Identify and co-finance with relevant partners, flagship programmes that are proven to reduce alcohol-related harm.
   Programmes cover the following areas: education/training of bar staff and retail staff (in particular, cashiers), drink-driving, young people, support for parents to enter into dialogue with their children on alcohol consumption; guidance for adult consumers on responsible drinking and for pregnant women.
   Enable the spirits industry to meet the expectations of stakeholders in relation to responsible marketing and self-regulation.
   EFRD works with all social actors in the supply chain (e.g. advertising, media, and hospitality industries as well as retail sectors) to help ensure responsible marketing and training of staff.
   Support the spirits industry in the promotion of the targeted approach with all interested stakeholders, backed up by evidence-based strategies and interventions.
   To support this aim, EFRD tracks bio-medical and socio-economic research in order to deepen the understanding of alcohol-related harm and how alcohol misuse can best be addressed.
